HISTORY

The Past Grand Officers Association was formally organized in 1977, after 3 years of planning.  The first meeting was held at Grand Assembly 1977 in Ft. Worth.  Peggy O'Neal Coke was elected the first President in recognition of all her efforts to get the group started.  Georgine West Tirey was elected Vice President, and Shellie Gosnell was elected Secretary/Treasurer.  Dues were set at $3, with $1 going toward operating costs, and the rest toward an annual donation to the Knights Templar Eye Fund in honor of Victor C. and Martha Marie Whitfield, who was then our Supreme Inspector.

In 1987, the Association voted to make a second annual donation to the International Temple Fund in honor of Mrs. Pearl Mills.  In 1989, a third annual donation was begun to the Whitfield Scholarship.

In 1993, the PGOA voted to discontinue the three separate annual donations and begin our own scholarship in honor of Mrs. Mills, who was then our Supreme Inspector.  In 1997 we began collecting donations of gently used formals to sell, with proceeds going to support this scholarship.  This has been and contunes to be a great success for us. In 2002, we were saddened by the loss of our dear Mrs. Mills, and the scholarship is now awarded in her memory.

Throughout the years, the PGOA has been involved with many projects, such as jewelry and cookbook sales, helping sell Rainbow News subscriptions, and 'Golden Girls', to honor 50-year Past Grand Officers. We  voted to open membership up to Majority Members, and changed our name to the PGOA Association (Past Grand Officers & Alumni Association). In 2003, we sponsored a "Girls Only" social for the girls at Grand Assembly, which was a big success. We look forward to the future!
